Can I cancel my online ordered furniture free of charge?

Questioner

On 30-10-2021 I ordered a furniture set from XYZmeubels.nl. With a note to deliver in week 11 2022. There is no down payment. It is a sole proprietorship and that man Adam called me the following week to ask if I wanted to call him 3 weeks before the desired delivery to agree on an exact date. Now I have called and emailed several times and I have not received any contact. Because I am afraid of being without furniture, I emailed last night that I want to cancel my entire order because I have no confidence that he will keep his agreements. Immediately after that I suddenly get an email. That there had indeed been bad contact and that he had already prepared my entire order except for 1 piece of furniture and that he had financed it and hoped that he could simply deliver it. I then emailed back that I had no confidence in him and that I would be happy to purchase the furniture from him but that I now wanted to agree on an exact delivery date, e.g. 14-03 if that suits him. I then again get a vague answer that he would rather wait until that one piece of furniture has arrived but that the 14th will probably work out. So I have no confidence in this and want to cancel the order. But can this be done free of charge? I have read about the right of withdrawal but I don't understand it. It says that I have 14 days after delivery to return it without giving a reason. But I want to cancel it before delivery. On a site of cbw recognized .... it says a purchase is a purchase so that I have to buy it now.? My question is can I cancel it now without delivery charges? And if so is sending an email enough? Thank you in advance for your response.

In case of purchase or distance (for example via internet) a consumer has a right of cancellation/withdrawal. The information can indeed be confusing. The right of withdrawal officially starts after you have received (the last part of) the order. However, it is also possible to proceed to withdrawal before receipt. There is an exception for goods that are adapted to the wishes of the consumer. For example, adjustments to a bank (this does not concern standard choices that can be made at a bank). You can cancel the agreement by email or by using the 'model cancellation form' (you can use this to prove that you have cancelled). Normally, the costs for returning are for the consumer (unless you were not told this). Since the products have not yet been sent to you, you do not have to return them.
