Rent allowance for two tenants
Questioner
I recently moved into an apartment with 1 other person (that person is not mine, just a roommate). We share a kitchen, bathroom and living room. Now I understand that you can also apply for housing benefit for an apartment with 2 people. The basic rent is below the limit (700 euros) and I am a 24-year-old student without a salary. I could really use housing benefit! However, it apparently depends on the other person whether I can get housing benefit. I find this strange because we are otherwise not related. My roommate currently earns too much, so neither of us can get housing benefit. So bad luck for me. In 2 months this roommate will leave and someone else will take his place. I would still like to try if we (or I alone) can get rent allowance, despite the fact that my new roommate would earn too much or have too much assets. What are the legal options/constructions for this? For example, I was thinking of a contract where I would be the main tenant and this new housemate would be the subtenant? So that the rent allowance is calculated with my data instead of our data together? What are the consequences of such a construction? Are there other options? I'd love to hear from you! Kind regards,Lawyer
Then there must indeed be subletting of a room in the house, something that will be prohibited in the contract because you must ask permission from the landlord. If there is a shared household, you always have an allowance partner.Take the next step
