What should I do if a work location is closed?

Questioner

My employer has announced that they are going to close the factory as of January next year, I have worked there for 35 years now I would like to know what my rights are and what is the wisest thing to do. I will be 62 next year and therefore have 4 years to go before I retire what. the company is not going bankrupt but is continuing at other locations, so the location where I work will no longer exist. I would like advice on what I should do and what my rights are. Yours sincerely,

Is there a works council within your company that has been involved in the (upcoming) reorganization? Is there a reorganization and/or social plan? This plan regulates, among other things, the consequences for the employees involved and the rights and facilities that apply.
