Rental contract terminated when landlord sells home

My daughter rents a room in Amsterdam, together with two others. She has a fixed rental contract. Now she finds out that the landlord has sold the flat. Can the buyer just cancel the lease? And what if the owner does not have a conversion permit? For the neighbourhood where they live, there are still permits available from the municipality. What is the best thing for them to do?

In principle, purchase does not break a lease. In most circumstances, a lease agreement will continue to exist and the new owner will have to take over the lease under the same conditions. Since when has your daughter been renting the room in Amsterdam? Your daughter has rental protection, even if it turns out that the landlord does not have his affairs in order (such as with a conversion permit). It is wise to read the rental contract to see if there is anything in it about a conversion permit or the situation in which the house is sold (mandatory legal rules cannot be deviated from, even if something to the contrary is stated in the contract).
