Can your ex kick you out of your house after promising not to?

Questioner

My relationship ended after 21 years and we have a house and a cohabitation contract. He left home himself and I am here in this house. At the moment everything is paid for properly by both of us, only I cannot bear the costs on my own. So he has decided that the house will be in his name as of September and that he will then buy me out. However, he has always said that I do not need the house as long as I have not found anything else and with this housing market crisis this is incredibly difficult because I can only pay for social housing because I have a WIA. But as soon as I sign at the notary, he can immediately evict me from the house? In the initial stage he wanted to draw up some kind of contract but he is now going back on that but I had to take his word that I do not have to leave the house. I simply cannot trust him in that. So my question is can he put me on the street after September if the house is in his name? And am I obliged to sign in September?

Lawyer

If you have not contractually agreed otherwise, yes. It may be wise for you to hire a lawyer who can guide you through this process and settle the termination of the cohabitation contract with you. For example, is there any surplus or deficit value to be divided of the home that is also yours? And is there any value build-up under any policies that are linked to the home? This may have to be divided. If desired, you can contact me. I can assist you with this.
