How can I object to a UWV decision?

Questioner

Recently, the UWV decided that after a period of more than a year of sickness benefits, I am fit to work again, but that has not been adjusted. I am severely limited in my functioning at the moment. This decision was made on the basis of a one-time conversation about my resilience and the possibility of paid work equal to my last earned income. I would like to file an objection, but I do not know exactly what to look for and what information is important in a good objection. Can I find or request information about this?

Lawyer

You could file an objection yourself, but it may be more desirable for you to hire a lawyer. If your income is low, as I now suspect, you are probably eligible for subsidized legal aid. In that case, you pay a personal (often relatively low) contribution to the lawyer, after which he or she can handle the entire objection procedure for you. Sometimes you can also get the costs of this contribution fully reimbursed after an application for special assistance from your municipality. The UWV is often very dismissive in these types of cases. In my experience, it is often necessary to go to court yourself afterwards to have the UWV's decision on the objection reviewed. If you wish, you can contact me. I handle these types of cases regularly.
