Child support at 18?

Questioner

My son has his main residence with my ex (he comes to me every 2 weeks for a weekend). I pay alimony for him. He is almost 18. My ex has now gone to a lawyer because he wants a recalculation of the alimony, because the child-related budget that he receives will then disappear. I don't feel like this is right. As far as I can find information, the amount does not change at the age of 18. What does change is that I can transfer the money directly to my son and if there is a maintenance review, that it is up to me and my son to look at it again. I read that the custodial parent is no longer a party to the child maintenance. Is this correct?

There is an extended maintenance obligation from 18 to 21 years for the costs of living and study. From the age of 18, you can pay child support directly to your child. You can make agreements about this with your child yourself. The caring parent is then no longer a party. The amount of child support remains the same in principle, unless there are changed circumstances. This is, for example, if your child has an income or receives a student grant. You can then have a recalculation made. This can also be done in consultation with your child.
