Can a partner receiving maintenance refuse to pay for sports?

Questioner

My ex receives child support for our daughter. For a long time she received too much and recently the court recalculated this. I am properly complying with this arrangement. Now our daughter would like to take up a sport, she does not currently do any. My ex refuses to register her for this, because she now thinks she receives too little money. During the court hearing we agreed on the amount so that she will do everything with it and this also includes sports. What can I do? Can I demand that she starts the sport or do I have no rights when it comes to the content of the support? What are other steps I can take so that my daughter can start playing sports?

Lawyer

In principle, the sports of child support should be able to be paid normally. That falls within the standard of costs of children. You can of course also make other agreements among yourselves. In family situations with a low income, there is often a pot for sports at the municipality. If you are unable to reach good agreements about this, you may consider mediation.
