Is it possible to terminate authority?

Questioner

I am divorcing my ex-partner. She is asking me to voluntarily give up my authority, so that she will have sole authority. Is this legally possible? (I am not sure yet whether I would find it desirable) Or can this only be imposed if there is serious dysfunction of the parent in question? The latter is not the case in our case.

Authority is assigned to one parent if the child may become trapped between the parents or if this is in the child's best interests for another reason. Terminating authority is not possible. You can change the authority from joint authority to sole authority by the other parent. You can have the sole authority changed by the judge together with your ex-partner. The judge will consider whether changing the authority is also in the best interests of your child. You need a lawyer to request sole authority.
