Termination of contract during reintegration?

Questioner

I am in a reintegration process and have been working for my employer for a few hours a week for a few weeks now. Since I started working again, I was immediately told that my contract will be terminated as of January 5, 2023. Is it not allowed to extend a contract during a reintegration process? So stop as of January 5?

Lawyer

If you have a fixed-term employment contract, it will in principle end automatically on the end date (there are exceptions, for example if it has been agreed that notice must be given). If you were to leave employment due to illness, I assume you would be eligible for a ZW benefit. Your employer must then report you as ill. This is mandatory. Please note that the employer is obliged to inform you in writing at least one month before the end of the employment contract whether it will be extended and if so under what conditions. If he does not do so, he will owe you a notice payment. You must have claimed this via the court within 2 months after the end date, otherwise it will lapse.
