Cancellation of subscription in case of price increase?

Questioner

I just received the invoice from company D. and I see that the subscription costs have been increased from 47.00 to 57.00 without prior notice and for inflation it seems a bit much to me. Can I now cancel my subscription free of charge? I seem to have a 5-year subscription, which I also signed for, but due to an excuse from a mechanic. My subscription was supposed to run until September 2025. But I read somewhere that if a price increase is implemented you can then cancel, is that also the case?

Good morning, It is not clear from your story that you have entered into an agreement as a private individual (consumer) or as an entrepreneur. In some cases it is also important to know what kind of contract it is (i.e. what kind of service the other party provides). The general rule is that you are bound by the contract for the duration for which you have concluded it. However, it depends on the content of the agreement and any general terms and conditions to assess whether you can terminate the agreement early/interim if a price increase is implemented. Usually a provision about this is included in the general terms and conditions. In the case of an agreement between a consumer and an entrepreneur, the rules on termination are more flexible for you than in the case of an entrepreneur vs. an entrepreneur. In the first case, the entrepreneur must adhere to a number of rules regarding the provision of information about price changes. It can also do no harm to ask the company what the price change is based on, if that is not clear. If you would like to discuss your file, please feel free to contact us without obligation.
