Entering into a registered partnership or cohabitation agreement?
Questioner
We live together in the house. My boyfriend bought it 3 years ago, is the owner and has his parents as guarantors. We would like to divide the costs equally, and arrange this well for both of us. We are wondering whether a cohabitation contract or a registered partnership is appropriate in our situation?Lawyer
A registered partnership is a formal legal union between two people of the same sex or opposite sex who live together. It offers similar rights and obligations as marriage, such as the right to alimony, inheritance and pension rights. A registered partnership can only be entered into by two adults who are not blood relatives. A cohabitation agreement is a contract between two people who live together but are not married. This can be either people of the same sex or of the opposite sex. A cohabitation agreement indicates how the financial and practical matters between the two people will be arranged, such as the use of property and the payment of bills. If you are considering entering into a registered partnership or cohabitation agreement, it is advisable to seek professional advice, for example from a lawyer or a mediator. They can help you determine which option best suits your specific circumstances and how best to enter into it.Neem de volgende stap
