Costs of rent distribution during divorce?

Questioner

My wife and I are getting divorced. We own a house together. We both want her to eventually live there and me to move out. Living together for one day is unfortunately no longer possible, so we both want me to move somewhere else in the short term. I can also rent something in the short term; it will take a few months before the divorce is formal. I want the lease to be in my name so that it remains outside the community and I can continue to live there after the divorce. My wife wants me to compensate her for the costs up to the moment of the divorce, because she is afraid that they will be at the expense of the assets to be divided in the divorce. I do not think that is fair, because I could have taken a hotel for the coming months and that is much more expensive. I consider those first months of rent as 'divorce costs' that we bear together. Moreover, I am not asking her for a user contribution because she will soon be living in our house that I will also pay. Perhaps it is good to know that we have a considerable difference in income, which means that de facto I already pay 90% of all costs during the marriage.

If you have entered into a divorce together, you will have to make agreements about dividing the costs for the home. For example, you can divide the costs proportionally. But you can also make the agreement that everyone pays their own costs for the home where they live. It is important that you have the agreements properly recorded in writing during the divorce. You can also always consult your own lawyer/mediator. If you cannot reach an agreement, you can always contact me on 0800 - 882 443 or send an e-mail to info@echtscheidingswinkel.nl for an appointment to discuss your rights.
