Son evicted?

Questioner

My 2 oldest sons smoke, smoke and drink. Especially my 26 year old son abuses me mentally by calling me names. He has a good job, but is dominant aggressive. He has no contact with his father. He has no respect for anyone, only at work.

Lawyer

In the Netherlands, parents generally have a duty to care for their minor children, but this duty usually ends when the child reaches the age of 18. This means that you generally have no legal obligation to keep your adult son of 26 in the house. However, if you decide to evict your son, it is important to be aware of the potential legal consequences. For example, if your son can demonstrate that he is financially dependent on you or that he cannot find other suitable housing, he may be able to appeal to the court to prevent his eviction. It is also important to remember that if there is violence, abuse or threatening situations, protective measures may be taken. In such cases, you may want to contact the police or a lawyer to get legal advice about possible steps you can take to protect yourself and other family members. To get detailed advice tailored to your specific situation, I recommend that you contact a lawyer who specializes in family law.
