Rights when terminating a lease?

Questioner

I am renting a furnished house (apartment - 1st floor) from a private individual as of July 1, 2019. This person came by yesterday and has terminated the lease as of May 1, 2024. He is otherwise a nice person, who told me that he wants to live in the apartment with his wife and that we verbally agreed before the start of the rental that I would leave if they wanted to live there themselves. I have a memory like an iron pot and I don't remember anything about this. I have to look for something else that is somewhat similar in terms of m2, state of maintenance, price and neighborhood. I don't know if this will work before May 1, 2024. Do I have to move out then? The rental agreement is for an indefinite period.

Lawyer

Good afternoon, In principle, what has been agreed in writing applies. Furthermore, there is an agreement for an indefinite period. Only in a few cases that are included in the law, the landlord can terminate the agreement. Without the tenant's consent, he must have the agreement terminated by the court. Based on your case, you do not have to leave on 1 May 2024 without further ado. It is advisable to respond adequately to the landlord. Feel free to contact us without obligation if you would like to discuss your case further. Gr, Mr. Mr. S. Leito FerLei Legal 06-49175526
