Can you sue someone for emotional distress?

If you have suffered damage due to the unlawful actions of another, you can claim compensation for damages under article 162, book 6 of the Civil Code. Non-material damage is also eligible for compensation, but do not expect too much of it. In the Netherlands, it is customary to award low amounts for non-material damage. It is more interesting to demonstrate consequential damage for which you have to pay bills: for example, therapy costs, etc.
