Alimony after death: What now?
Questioner
Dear all. I am now almost 65 years old and have been divorced since March 10, 2010. My ex-wife then applied for alimony through the court and I had to pay this from May 1, 2012, 500.0 euros per month. but now she has appealed because from the date of the divorce ruling to the date from which I started paying my alimony, she also wants to receive those months. so 14 months of 500 euros extra, this was approved by the higher court and we now pay our son 600 euros per month. but now she is dying and may have only 3 months to live because of cancer with extensive metastases. Should I now continue to pay after considering her advice, in connection with the first ruling and the appeal that was added to it, the ruling on the appeal has only now been pronounced for those months. they call that working back the power. Can they now suddenly claim that money because of her death or do I have to continue paying it? I find it very difficult and I still get little clarity about it. Could you perhaps explain it to me? Thank you very much in advance for your help.Lawyer
Death terminates the obligation to pay maintenance.Questioner
thank you very much for your response. because my ex-wife's family says I have to pay it, because the appeals court ruled so.Take the next step
