Employment Agency Liability: Tips and Advice

Questioner

After applying for a job at the agency, I was told I'd been accepted on December 11, 2012. They promised me a start date the week of December 17, and promised to contact me beforehand because I needed a passport photo. The person who promised this went on vacation without informing my colleagues of our arrangements. As a result, I called the agency two to three times a week, each time saying they were looking into it, but no one returned my calls. This resulted in me being home unpaid for a month, which had major consequences for my unpaid bills. Can I hold the agency liable?

Yes, that could be possible in principle, but you'll likely have a problem with proof. How will you prove that you were hired over the phone?
