Legal Assistance with Employment Law Questions
Questioner
I have been working in the supermarket for almost 4 years now, so I have a permanent contract. Until last summer, I worked 30 hours a week (on a 2-12 hour contract). Then, from October to December, I had a 24-hour contract for three months. Now I'm back on a 2-12 hour contract. And last week I was told I can only work 11 hours a week. Is this allowed? And am I entitled to extra benefits or something?Questioner
Dear questioner, You say you have a permanent contract for (I assume) 30 hours per week. Your employer only wants you to work 11 hours per week. This is illegal under employment law and cannot automatically lead to unemployment benefits. If you need to sign a 'new' contract or something similar, or have to work a different schedule next week, it's best to discuss your case with a lawyer to take action on this matter.Take the next step
